Two powerful creative people often clash
Malhotra began by explaining how different Khan was in her early days as a choreographer: “Farah, the choreographer, and Farah, the director, are two different people.
Farrah, the choreographer, was really commenting and shouting, “Arie ya ze…” Farrah laughed and agreed, saying, “We had a lot of fights on set.” They were both emotional and expressive. Farah Khan wanted the dancers and actors to move freely without costume issues, and Manish Malhotra wanted his design choices to be respected. Their strong personalities often led to loud disagreements.
Big fight over Juhi Chawla song
Malhotra was then involved in a major controversy that occurred during the shooting of Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla’s film ‘Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani.’
The fight happened during one of Juhi’s songs. “One day, I was upset and walked off the set because there was a song by Juhi Chawla in Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, and Farah said, ‘This gray kurta is not moving,’ and I said, ‘You are always getting stuck,’” Malhotra recalls. Malhotra was referring to the song ‘Banke Tera Jogi.’ Farrah’s candid comment about the outfit prompted his exit, leaving the group in shock. It was rare for Manish Malhotra to reach such a breaking point, but this time he had enough.
Manish Malhotra rejected calls for two days
Adding her side of the story, Khan looked directly into the camera and said, “I remember you getting really mad at me.” She then revealed, “He didn’t answer my phone for two days.”
Another dramatic moment on “Fevicol Se”
This was not the only time the horns locked. Malhotra recalled another tense moment during the shooting of ‘Fevicol Se’ from ‘Dabangg 2’, the blockbuster film with the Kareena Kapoor song. Khan remembered it clearly and said, “I remember you getting really angry with me.” Again, Manish refused to answer her calls for two days.
Farah Khan is getting softer as a director
Malhotra then spoke about the big transformation he sees in Khan when she directs a film instead of choreographing. “As a director, she’s a different person. She’s become very nice,” he said. Khan agreed with a smile, explaining, “I know because I’m happiest when I go out and feel like this is my team and my people.”
